The Restoration

Since the purchase of Battersea in 2011, the Foundation has concluded several stabilization efforts on both the east and west sides of the villa, as well as the greenhouse. Major structural repairs were needed, without which Battersea was in danger of soon collapsing.

The following repairs have been completed since 2015:

  • Successfully stabilized and repaired the west pavilion of the villa, removing all bracing and structural supports.

  • Electricity has been installed in the villa.

  • The cellar entrances or “dog houses” have been rebuilt, complete with copper roofing.

  • Termite damaged timbers have been replaced in the basement.

  • Archeological study conducted in the area adjacent to the greenhouse.

  • Heating and air conditioning installed in the villa.

  • Upgrade to security system in villa.

  • Successfully stabilized and repaired east pavilion and east hyphen.

  • Repaired all jack arches above windows.

  • Repointed and repaired chimneys.

  • Both east and west pavilions have been stabilized using a stainless-steel tie system.

  • Demolished and removed 1920’s garage building.

  • Exterior repair and renovation completed at Good Will House, including metal roof.

With the above listed repairs complete, an analysis of work needed to complete the exterior of the villa was obtained:
