Battle of Petersburg Reenactment

Bring the family to Battersea to view the encampment, participate in activities, tour the Villa and watch the battle reenactments which will take place at 2:00 p.m. on both days. Free admission.

4/21 Schedule:

  • 11:00 - Site Opens to Public

  • 11:30 - Period Church Service

  • 12:00 - Militia Drill

  • 1:00 - Cannon Demo

  • 1:30 - Assemble for Battle

  • 2:00 - Battle of Petersburg

  • 3:00 - Site closes / Event ends

4/20 Schedule:

  • 11:00 - Site opens to public & Infantry Drill

  • 11:30 - Cannon Drill & Demo

  • 12:00 - Recruit Militia (kids) and Drill

  • 1:00 - Cannon Demo

  • 1:30 - Assemble for Battle

  • 2:00 - Battle of Petersburg

  • 3:00 - Colonial Dancing Demo

  • 4:00 - Site closes to public

  • 6:00 - Dance Begins


Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic lunches/refreshments and beverages to enjoy.  *No alcohol permitted* There will be no food available to purchase at the event, so please plan accordingly. There are many wonderful restaurants close by in downtown Petersburg to dine in or get takeout!

A Play on the Porch: John Banister & William Watkins, discuss Patrick Henry’s Speech with the great Orator

John Banister has invited fellow Dinwiddie delegate to the Second Virginia Convention, William Watkins, and Patrick Henry to join him at Battersea to discuss Henry’s “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death!” speech delivered earlier that day at St. John’s Church in Richmond. The three men discuss what “Liberty” means to them, their businesses, their families, and the community. A collaborative event with St. John’s Church Foundation. Free admission.

  • Noon: Lecture: “18 th century Corner Chairs – Regional Differences” (Sandy Graham)

  • 1:30 PM: LIVE AUCTION (in person and absentee bidding only)
